Letter: Ivy Tech attractive to students

Ivy Tech attractive

To the editor:

Morton Marcus’ recent column fails to mention the wide variety of students that Ivy Tech serves. Just among my acquaintances there are two middle-aged women who take one course a semester for enrichment.

One, an elementary school teacher, recently took anatomy; another took a computer class. Two young people I know take classes at Ivy Tech because it’s cheaper and the availability of evening classes fits in with their day job. Students with physical disabilities like Ivy Tech because of easy parking and the close proximity of offices.

Everyone remarks about how friendly and helpful people at Ivy Tech are. The classes are small and the instructors are very dedicated. It offers an attractive alternative to students who, for whatever reason, wouldn’t fit in well with the dormitory/tailgate-party lifestyle that is so prevalent at IU.
