BLOOMINGTON – Ivy Tech’s Bloomington campus now offers a patient care technician associate degree program, created to meet workforce demands. The program prepares graduates for careers as nursing assistants or patient care technicians.
Patient care technicians are multi-skilled members of the healthcare team. They assist patients with day-to-day activities, take vital signs, perform electrocardiography, draw blood, maintain safe patient environments, and assemble equipment/supplies in preparation for various diagnostic or treatment procedures by physicians and nurses.
Patient care technicians are employed in settings including hospitals, continuing care communities, rehabilitation units, and dialysis centers.
According to EMSI data in June 2017, the median nursing assistant salary in Indiana is approximately $11.43 per hour and there are 1,365 annual job openings projected through 2020.
