Nutrition series offers healthy tips for students

BLOOMINGTON – Ivy Tech Bloomington’s department of student life is continuing to offer nutrition and cooking classes for students, faculty, and staff in the fall 2018 semester, as part of campus recreation and wellness programming. The classes, led by Chef Stacy Strand of the hospitality administration program, teach students about sugars, the additives in food, how to prepare real food (rather than processed and packaged), and a variety of other topics. Chef Strand also prepares several healthy and tasty food samples. The sessions are held every last Tuesday of the month from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. at The Yellowwood, a student-run restaurant on Ivy Tech Bloomington’s campus.

The first nutrition session of this semester was held on Tuesday, January 30 and focused on foods that sound healthy but are not, such as granola. Upcoming topics include frozen treats that are healthy, how to prepare a variety of vegetables, and how to use seasonings/salt to make healthy food taste good.
