Science Olympiad brings middle and high school students to campus

BLOOMINGTON – Ivy Tech’s Bloomington campus hosted a science Olympiad on Saturday, Feb. 3 for middle and high school students from across the state. Teams of 15 students competed in events focused on science and engineering. Some events included written exams and lab activities. Others involved bringing a device for testing that the students had built, such as a bridge, a plane, or a car.

From our service area, we had teams from Bachelor Middle School, Bloomington Home School, Brown County Middle School, Mitchell Jr. High, and Mitchell High School.

A total of 20 teams were signed up to compete. Those who scored high advanced to the State Science Olympiad, which will be held at Indiana University in March. If they do well there, they may qualify to compete in the international competition, which will be held in Colorado this year.

More than 100 volunteers helped with the event. Volunteers were Ivy Tech faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as several people from local business and industry.
